Washington, DC: Exploration of Human Rights
Monday March 13–Saturday March 18
Throughout history and into the present day, we see examples of devastating human rights crises and crimes against humanity. During these same moments, we also see the powerful, inspiring, and enduring work of individuals and organizations to help combat these injustices and restore human rights and dignity. Through the lens of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, participants will be challenged to explore the context and responses to human rights violations in the past few centuries. Highlights include: Three topically relevant museums—Holocaust Memorial Museum, National Museum of African-American History and Culture, Museum of the American Indian; Visits to prominent human rights-based organizations such as US Commission for Refugees and Immigrants, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, American University’s Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law; Exploration of relevant historical sites.
